The power of subconscious mind is not a myth. Nor is it mongering by self help gurus. It is very real, though we cannot see it, except in terms of its effects in our everyday lives.

If you have ever wondered if the difference between the wealthy and the poor lies in something beyond upbringing, luck or opportunities, the answer is YES – it is a hidden mental power that makes a difference between positive and negative mindsets, success and failure, fear and confidence.

And the good news is that each one of us has this power and immense potential in our minds. But the majority of us just do not know how to use it. The world's most influential thinkers, businessmen, artists, inventors trust in their subconscious and train their conscious mind to listen to it more often – and vice versa. So you can too.

What is the Power of Subconscious Mind?

To understand the power of the subconscious, you need to know what the subconscious is. The brain can be defined in terms of frequencies at which each state of consciousness vibrates. The conscious mind is only a tip of the iceberg and it does the thinking and reasoning for you.

The subconscious mind is the state of your mind when you are in a light sleep (when you are REM dreaming for instance) or meditating. You can only experience this stage when you are momentarily slipping into sleep from consciousness or waking up from deep unconscious sleep.

At other times, the subconscious mind quietly stores your beliefs, memories, faiths, faces and names of people you know etc. It protects you from danger by attracting things that fit in with your existing beliefs and protects your belief system from being turned upside down.

This is why your subconscious mind is so powerful – it filters what your conscious mind experiences and keeps your beliefs consistent. In turn, it bolsters your beliefs and delivers it to the conscious mind.

This means that whatever we think of ourselves, we become. So, each time we tell ourselves that we will never attain our dreams; we are letting our subconscious know and bolstering that belief. In doing so, we are only ensuring that we fail. Instead, we have to feed our subconscious with positive thoughts that will keep our conscious mind positive as well.

Napoleon Hill's Suggestion to Bring Out the Power of Subconscious Mind

In Napoleon Hill's ground breaking manual for success, Think and Grow Rich, Hill described a technique for success that he called the invisible counselors technique.

The exercise is an imaginative one that you perform in 3 simple steps, bring out your creativity and solve problems.

1. First, close your eyes and imagine yourself in the room of a counselor. Decide what problem you want guidance with.

2. Pick anywhere between 5 and 9 people (it does not matter if they are alive or dead, real or fictional) from whom you would like some advice.

3. Ask them the questions you want answers to. Be open minded about it; be ready to receive any answers.

If you have a strong imagination, this will work very well for you. But even if you do not, you can still develop the skill with practice. Soon your subconscious will start giving you answers through your experience of the people you have picked.

Other Exercises to Bring Out the Power of Subconscious Mind

There are a few other ways of tapping into this power.

· Autosuggestion – feed your brain with information that you write, read or listen to when you are in a state of light meditation. Make sure they are consistent with your goals and objectives. Your subconscious will listen to them and make them your reality.

· Auto inquisition – try Thomas Edison's method to learn from your subconscious. Sit on a chair with a metal ball in your hand and doze off while you ask your subconscious a question. When you drift into sleep, the ball will fall and wake you, so you can access your subconscious for brief moments and unleash your creativity.

Overall, the idea is to keep your subconscious positive. When you have done that, you will find that you can achieve the success that you crave in your career, family and other elements of your life. Learn to feed into the power of subconscious mind and you will be able to let your innate genius free.

The network marketing industry today is much different then it was back in the 80's and 90's. More and more people are looking into the MLM industry that they once frowned upon or laughed at. [Read More]

These self-made billionaires did not inherit family wealth, nor were they born with silver spoons in their mouths. Instead, most of them started young, battled the odds, built their empires from scratch, and paved their entrance into the Forbes 400 list – the wealthiest billionaires with fortunes of over $1.3 billion.

Here are the world's 5 richest self made billionaires that have taken risks, built their own fortunes and have become role models for the next generation of young entrepreneurs with big ideas, plenty of determination, but without easy wealth to start with.

Self-Made Billionaire in the Fashion Industry

1. Amancio Ortega, $57 billion

Amacio Ortega is a Spanish entrepreneur in the fashion industry, Spain's richest man, ranking number 3 on the Forbes 400 list for 2013. Unlike Carlos Slim and Bill Gates, numbers 1 and 2 respectively on the list, Ortega was not always so fortunate. This puts him at the top of today's wealthiest self made billionaires.

Ortega has decidedly blue-collar beginnings – his father was a railway worker. The son has his beginning in the fashion industry – as a gofer at shirt stores in A Coruna, a city in Galicia. Then he went on to found the bathrobe manufacturing company Confecciones Goa, followed by the opening of the first fashion store in 1975.

This store would later become the immensely popular global chain of stores Zara. Ortega is also the chairman of the Inditex Group, which was founded with his ex-wife Rosalie Mera.

Self-Made Billionaire in Property Development

2. Sheldon Adelson, $26.5 billion

American casino magnate and property developer Sheldon Adelson had humble beginnings, and he ranks number 3 in the world's top 5 self made billionaires. He was the son of a cab driver. His parents were Ukrainian Jews living in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood.

His first business was a newspaper business at age 12. At the age of 16 he started a candy vending machine. Adelson attended trade school for training as a court reporter but left to join the army. This was followed by a number of other small businesses including a stint selling toiletry kits to motels, mortgage brokering and even a charter tour business.

Adelson's first breakthrough was with Comdex, a computer trade show which he developed with his partners. This was followed by several real estate developments like the Las Vegas Sands Hotel and Casino, The Venetian Resort and Hotel and other property developments that brought him to where he is today as the CEO of the Las Vegas Sands Casino empire. Adelson ranks 15 on the Forbes 400 list.

Self-Made Billionaires in Technology

3. Larry Ellison, $43 billion

The Forbes 400 number 4, Larry Ellison made his money through Oracle Corporation, of which he is the founder and CEO. But Ellison's early life did not hold any luxuries for him. His mother was Jewish and unwed, and he was adopted by a middle class Chicago family almost a year after his birth. He was a bright kid, with aptitude for science and math in school.

But he never completed university, leaving before his 2nd year ended, after his mother's death. After a computer designing course and 8-years of odd jobbing in California, he finally became one of the programmers (representing Ampex) to build the first IBM mainframe.

Ellison's breakthrough was his co-founding of Software Development Labs with his colleagues Ed Oates and Robert Miner in 1977. The company was founded on $1400 that he had saved, and was renamed to Oracle Corporation later. The 65-year old has a lifestyle to match his wealth, with several islands, sailboats and airplanes as his toys. He holds the second spot among the wealthiest self made billionaires of today.

4. Larry Page, $23 billion

Larry Page ranks at number 20 on the Forbes 400 list, and is the 4th richest self-made billionaire on it. The co-founder of Google along with Sergey Brin, Page had middle class beginnings. The son of computer science professors at Michigan State University, Page attended Stanford where he earned a Master of Science in computer science.

He had always been interested in science and in computers in particular. His illustrious academic career included the invention of a LEGO inkjet printer while at Stanford. It was at university that he met Sergey Brin in 1995, and the duo went on to found Google, Inc. three years later. Today Page is the CEO of Google, Inc. He also has philanthropic investments in renewable energy technology.

5. Sergey Brin, $22.8 billion

The co-founder of Google, Inc. along with Larry Page, Sergey Brin emigrated from Russia to the US with his family at the age of 6. His father was a mathematics academician, and Brin followed in his footsteps to study mathematics and computer science.

Brin was acquiring a PhD in computer science at Stanford University when he met Larry Page. Brin went on to receive the epithet of an 'Enlightenment Man' bestowed on him by The Economist. Together with Page, Brin owns $16% of Google and his personal wealth puts him at number 21 of the Forbes 400 list and at number 5 of the world's richest self made billionaires’ roundup.
