What is Article Marketing | Developing Your Strategy

Article marketing is a free form of advertising done by creating and posting articles related to what you are selling. In the recent years article marketing has grown in popularity, making it ten times more important for individuals to learn an article marketing strategy early in order to drive traffic to their site. In order to be effective at marketing with articles, you need to understand how to create each component of an article and where to promote it.

Article Marketing | Creating Your Title

A title in your article marketing strategy is just as important as a title for your school paper – it needs to stand out and catch some attention. Titles should be quick and easy, but also let the reader know just what he or she is getting involved with by reading your piece.

Example: You are writing about home buying tips.

Bad Title: “Home Buying Tips Everyone Should Know”

Good Title “Buying a Home: 10 Tips You Should Know”

The reader will know from the “good” title what he or she is going to find much faster than the “bad” title.

Article Marketing | Creating the Body

The body of your article needs to be sufficient and give the reader something to learn. Nothing infuriates readers more than an article that babbles on and on without any guidance or care and therefore a valuable body should be your top priority in your article marketing strategy. The most important information should be at the start of the article and slowly move down. At the end of the article you should create a summary so that the reader knows what he or she just read. Remember that whatever you promise in your article title must be met within the body of your article – if you say you will give home buyers 10 tips, you need to provide 10 quality tips for reading.

Keep your article 250 to 500 words – reason being is many readers lose interest, especially with articles that go on for over 1,000 words. Try breaking up your content with subheaders and bullet points to give the reader good pausing sections as they read your work as well as a place to ponder what he or she just read.

Article Marketing | Using Resource Boxes, Backlinks and References

Most article directories (where you will submit your marketing material) require you to use a resource box to promote your website or sell your product. Create a standard resource box that includes your name, your company name and your call-to-action. In your resource box the reader should know just what he or she would gain by looking into your company further.

If you have relevant links, you can add these links into the HTML text of your article. This will help promote other products and create a backlink to your article.

Article Marketing | Where to Submit Your Articles

The last part of your article marketing strategy should include where you will send your articles. Popular article directories such as:

Ezine.com

ArticleBase.com

GoArticles.com

Allow writers to submit articles for free. It is important, however, to remember that each directory requires a submission to be 100 percent unique. Therefore you can only post one article to one site at a time. You can, however, rewrite one article to make it slightly different than the original in order to post it to multiple article directories at the same time.
